Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be posting a series of Spaiku from "Fool for Love," that Spikiest of Spike-centric episodes. I'm breaking it down scene by scene (and sometimes moment by moment), so there will be quite a few of them.  (Doubtless one-off haiku from other episodes will pop up as well, but FFL will be an ongoing project for the next little while.) This first batch, "Information," moves from Spike's crypt to the Bronze. Please note that the sixth haiku is taken word for word from the episode and is, even more than usual, so very much not mine. (It was too perfect to pass up.) BtVS S5, PG.
Crypt door bursts open,
vampire fumbles with his fly.
It’s called knocking, pet!

Can smell something’s wrong. . .
masks concern with bravado,
treats her to a sneer.

Relishes her fear—
girl’s finally sussed she’s not

So she’s come to him?
How the mighty have fallen.
It’s gonna cost her.

Slayer glowers at
her distasteful companion,
orders up a plate.

A pain in the ass:
What can I tell you, baby?
I’ve always been bad.

*Found haiku taken verbatim from episode.

Hee, these are great, and #6 is perfect, of course it's a haiku so must be included!

Once you're done with this project I hope you'll move on to something even more ambitious, maybe the history of the French Revolution in haiku?

Thank you! I couldn't resist, and, frankly, it was a lot easier than coming up with something else for that moment.

Bwahaa! It just kind of mushroomed on me. I was going to write three or four for FFL and then something went terribly wrong. *snort* If only my enthusiasm for historical events and BtVS were equally matched! I told philips that once I've exhausted Spike (or vice versa), I'll just keep moving down through the cast until I'm writing haiku about the creepy dude who cleans the grease trap at the Doublemeat. . .

haiku about the creepy dude who cleans the grease trap at the Doublemeat. . .

Oh! Please do. I always kind of felt bad for that guy.

It's a meat process;
Doublemeat Experience
has swallowed him whole.

*lol* Thank you. Enabler!

FFL is one of my favorite eps, too...so much Spike!

Love your Spaikus :)

Aw, thank you. Glad you liked these! If it's not my favorite episode, it's definitely in the top five.
May. 16th, 2008 09:09 pm (UTC)
Oh this is wonderful - especially this line - "It's called knocking, pet!"

And of course, #6 - wonderful discovery!

Thank you! I couldn't resist throwing a little FITB moment in there since we don't actually get to see Buffy's arrival at the crypt. Since she assumes that he's doing "something nasty" alone in his crypt in "Out of My Mind," I thought it would be fun to prove her right. ;)

Ah... FFL in haiku "wibbles with delight".
May. 17th, 2008 01:21 am (UTC)
*crosses fingers* I'll try not to disappoint!

FFL in haiku = wondrous!

masks concern with bravado,
treats her to a sneer.

favorite - so Spike-like.

#6 find in dialog. Good show.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked that one; it was being uncooperative and I'm relieved to know it worked for you. :)

Here we go! And it's a fantastic start. Enter Spike and his years of cockiness. Let's see what's behind it all!

Can tell something’s wrong. . .
masks concern with bravado,
treats her to a sneer.

Can almost see him stopping himself. The word treat is excellent.

So she’s come to him?
How the mighty have fallen.
It’s gonna cost her.

So much need. Bitterness too. Wonderful.

A pain in the ass:
What can I tell you, baby?
I’ve always been bad.

If you hadn't made this a haiku I would have defriended you.
I'm strapped in and ready for the rest. You do have a knack for these. ;)

Thank you, sweetie! I'm thrilled (and relieved) that you like them. There was lots of (productive) beta-bickering at lunchtime today, a mass revision and a hurried posting. *whines* Exposition is hard! By the time I get to the end of the FFL, B. will probably be like Burgess Meredith in Rocky.

Not the D word! Whew. Remind me not to curb my found haiku impulses from here on out. :)

Wow, thank you! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed them. FFL really is amazing; I can hardly believe how much they've packed into a single episode.

Have a lovely weekend, darlin!

Neat! You're really good at this! And clever of you to pick out #6 from the show.
May. 17th, 2008 07:59 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you liked them. Thanks for reading!

Heh. I think my ability to hear haiku in episodes is probably a symptom of some kind of neurosis. ;)

These are great! I particularly like #2, but I enjoyed all of them!
May. 18th, 2008 01:54 am (UTC)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked that one; it took a while to get right.
May. 17th, 2008 10:20 pm (UTC)
I love these! Oh wait, I said that the last time, didn't I? Oh well, bears repeating every time you spaiku. :)
May. 18th, 2008 01:56 am (UTC)
*lol* Well, trust me, it never gets old! Thanks for reading, dear. :D
May. 18th, 2008 01:52 pm (UTC)
If it was still poetry month, these have gone up as a weekend extra!

I love your spaiku because I think you do a really good job in capturing the essence of Spike's character.

And the found spaiku, totally rocks!

Look forward to more!
May. 19th, 2008 03:48 am (UTC)
Aw, thanks! I'm tickled that you're continuing to enjoy them.

I'm always so excited when I find spaiku! (Probably too excited. It's sad, really.) ;)

I should have more up in a day or two. Poor, poor William. . .
May. 18th, 2008 07:01 pm (UTC)
Hee! Wonderful!
May. 19th, 2008 03:49 am (UTC)
Thanks, honey! Glad you liked them. :D

Is it possible that I have not seen these? How? Why? How?

masks concern with bravado

*weeps at the perfection*

Your spaiku is (as usual) very satisfying. I'm off to have a cigarette now. Oh. Wait. I don't smoke. Huh.
