In today's installment, we meet that nice William Pratt. After spending much of the weekend with him, I confess that I began to find his writing style somewhat contagious. Mister Beta has asked that I caution the reader thusly: “Written in the style of a man who is going to get his ass handed to him for the next 120 years.” BtVS, S5. G.

Timid poet sits;
Partita in E major
kindles his fancy.

Frets over rhyme schemes,
the spirit of vexation . . .
his fair muse arrives.

Soft! Our Miss Adams!
Fits of perfervid scribbling
herald her entrance.

Dearest Cecily!
The firmament wheels o’er him,
she its only star.

(part 3: humiliation)

“Written in the style of a man who is going to get his ass handed to him for the next 120 years.”

Oh, I think you've done better than that. And poor William, Cecily his only star indeed...

Aw, thank you. I have to admit that I did a fair amount of evil cackling while writing these, but I really do have a soft spot for William. Poor lamb!

Schemes! That's perfect. Sadly, vexing schemes (and fair muses) will pop up a lot. Pace yourself, William.

Soft! Our Miss Adams!
Fits of perfervid scribbling
herald her entrance.

First pickled and now perfervid. You ping it every time. I love the mood of these. Very pretty. And sad.

Thank you so much, sweetie. I had this whole evil glee thing going on while I was writing these, but as soon as I was done, I just felt bad for him; he doesn't know he's ridiculous. Yet. Poor saddo!

Mmm, how I admire your nape of Spike. Him purty.
May. 21st, 2008 04:34 pm (UTC)
Hee. You captured his voice perfectly.
May. 21st, 2008 11:15 pm (UTC)
Thank you very much! I had such a good time with these that I actually felt a little guilty afterwards. Poor lovelorn bastard.
May. 21st, 2008 05:04 pm (UTC)
Fabulous! Who'd have thought even a tiny piece of William would fit into a haiku? But these capture him perfectly.
May. 21st, 2008 11:18 pm (UTC)
Wow, thank you! I wasn't sure he would fit either! I'm glad it worked for you. :)
May. 21st, 2008 05:57 pm (UTC)
Perfervid! How perfectly perfect!
May. 21st, 2008 11:29 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I'm not even gonna pretend that I didn't do a happy little chair dance when I realized it would fit there. *waves dork flag* Happy it worked for you!

May. 21st, 2008 06:05 pm (UTC)
Oh you have SO nailed William with these! Just perfect in every word choice.

May. 22nd, 2008 12:11 am (UTC)
Thanks so much, Kathleen! Glad you enjoyed them; I had a lot of fun writing these. *g*

A timid poet fretting...over rhymes schemes and Cecily.
William is so sad and almost pathetic.

[Such an interesting word is perfervid.]

Spike will deny his poetry until NFA poetry slam

*nods* Even though I enjoy poking fun at the pompous side of William, it's impossible to not pity him as well. It always breaks my heart when he says, "I know I'm a bad poet, but I'm a good man."

I just LOVE the poetry slam scene in NFA; it's so good to see him reclaim the part of himself that he's spent his entire unlife denying.

Glad you liked these, Louise! :)

I love the use of "perfervid"! Great as ever.
May. 22nd, 2008 12:24 am (UTC)
Thank you, gillo! I was immoderately pleased to discover that it would fit there, and I'm glad you liked it too. :D
May. 21st, 2008 07:28 pm (UTC)
Excellent. I love "perfervid scribbling."
May. 22nd, 2008 12:33 am (UTC)
Thank you! I was trying to find something that would convey the intensity of his enthusiasm, and I'm pleased that it seems to have worked. Glad you enjoyed these. *g*
May. 21st, 2008 07:49 pm (UTC)
Oh! I hear him in my HEAD!
(And no, that's not my Dru impression. :P)

Perfectly in character and voice, my dear. Well done.
May. 22nd, 2008 12:43 am (UTC)
Thank you, sweetie! I don't think I can ask for a better compliment than that! I'm glad someone hears the voices him besides me; I've watched his sad little scene so many times in the past week I'm probably mumbling Williamisms in my sleep. ;)

Oddly enough, most of the William ones were written in the shower over a couple of days. (In bath crayon!) How come the Big Bad never showers with me?! *sulks*

Aw, but I love your Dru impressions! :D

Thank you so much! I love that you can hear him. I laughed a lot while I was working on these, but the more I tinkered, the more I pitied him. Now I wish I could just stick him in a cab and send him home before the bad things happen to him!

Cackles madly
Hee. Love it. Obscure words, unforgettable moments.

Re: Cackles madly
Yay! I'm so glad you liked these. Believe me--a lot of mad cackling went into their making. :D
May. 22nd, 2008 04:52 am (UTC)
My heart goes out to him just reading these.
May. 22nd, 2008 02:50 pm (UTC)
Thank you, sweetie! I'm so glad you liked them.

*points to your icon* Bwahaa! Poor William. He's a kitten on a raft!
May. 22nd, 2008 06:04 am (UTC)
You used "perfervid" in haiku. AWESOME!!

They're all very Pratt-like, too. Perfect.
May. 22nd, 2008 02:54 pm (UTC)
Hee! It seemed like a very William kind of word.

Thanks, O She Who Shimmies. Glad you liked these. :D
May. 22nd, 2008 01:58 pm (UTC)

Hi, came here via rec post from petzipellepingo, I've been reading your Spaikus and I have to say that I love these the best. You captured poor William quite poignantly.

(May I add you to my flist?)
May. 22nd, 2008 03:04 pm (UTC)
Hi! *waves* Thank you so much! I'm delighted you enjoyed these; I was trying to not make him so ridiculous that he's unsympathetic, and I'm glad that it seems to have worked. Poor lamb.

Please do! I'm thrilled that there are people who read these things. :)
