Seasonal Spuffy Spaiku.

Most of my flist probably watches this comm already, but just in case: yesterday was my posting day at seasonal_spuffy. You can find forty-three (yep, you heard me--they spiraled out of control!) haiku snapshots from "Crush" right here if such a thing interests you. I'm relieved to be done so that I can get back to reading the entries for this round; there have been so many wonderful contributions, and I highly recommend checking them out if you haven't already done so. *happy sigh* I do so love me some Spuffy. <333

As you know, I already read 'em, loved 'em, and commented the heck out of 'em. But! *there's always a big "but"* I wanted to talk about the choice of "Crush" for your Spaiku opus. I've been on sites where they talk about "worst Spuffy moments" or some variation thereon. Lots of people say the attempted rape was the worst, some say Buffy beating up Spike in the alley, some say Buffy shining Spike on after the night he comforted her, etc. Nobody ever mentions this episode (except me). For me it's the worst because Spike is so out of his depth, so willing to dump his essential Spikeness, and they seem to be on different planets. The whole scene in the car is just agonizing! I can barely watch. It's a train wreck. Which, of course, means it's incredibly funny. But I can't stop squirming, and I have to cover my eyes. Am I really the only one?

And bless you for it, darlin! I haven't had a chance to answer all of them yet (stoopid job! Feh!), but your comments have pretty much made my day.

Spike makes so many bad choices in S5, and I agree with you that, sexbot commissioning aside, the bulk of them seem to be made in "Crush." It's not my personal worst Spuffy moment (I think mine is that really OOC little screed he delivers to her in "Normal Again" instead of making her drink her demon Ovaltine like a good girl, at least in terms of embarrassment for the character), but I can certainly see your argument for it. And guess what? I have a big "but," too! I was going to do a reasonable number of Spaiku for "Crush" and then balance out the harshness of it by also doing the scene in "The Gift" where she lets the barrier down and invites him back in. Then the "Crush" haiku trampled me with their little cloven hooves and I ran out of time. *sobs* I was weak! The whole point of choosing "Crush" was because of the "obstacle" theme and looking at the things that lead up to the erection (heh) and removal of the magical barrier. *sigh* Oh vell.

I love the scene in the car, but I admit that I hide my face every time he sings "Sedated." I'm just so mortified for him! Dude seriously needs to work on the wooing-of-human-girls technique.

Oh! I almost forgot! I was reading the shooting script for "Smashed" on the Buffyworld site one day, and look at this little scene (set right before he calls her from the pay phone) that they deleted:

Spike moves about the room. Organized. Preparing.

From a chest of drawers, he pulls out a stun gun, fires it a couple times to make sure it works. Sets in on a table.

From a trunk at the foot of the bed, he brings out a coil of rope, pulling it tight. Puts it on the table, too.

He rustles some more in the trunk, reveals a set of chains. And a handful of padlocks. And a pair of handcuffs. On the table.

He rummages through a stack of records, finds just what he's looking for: an LP of Roxy Music's Avalon. He pops it on a dusty old turntable.

He lights some candles, sets a bouquet of flowers in a vase, sprinkles rose petals on the bed. He looks around, taking in his handiwork, then lets out a long, contented sigh.

There. All ready.

Meep! That looks a damned sight more effective than the fakeout stakeout, doesn't it? Holy crap! I'm glad they cut it (I mean, a stun gun. Really?), but the Roxy Music and rose petals are a nice touch.

Aw, thank you for reading, sweetie. *hugs* I'm so glad that you liked them! I was planning on doing more than just "Crush," but the whole thing kinda got away from me.

Happy Friday, Calypso! :D
