The rest of the Round 10 winners have been announced over at the Fang Fetish Awards, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when I opened my inbox this morning and discovered that Crushed Spaiku had snagged a Judge's Choice award. Between the prettiness of the pretty (customized by subject matter, no less!) and the judge's kind words, this really stands out as one of the better anti-Mondays I've received in recent memory.

Kudos and much gratitude to the Fang Fetish folks for your hard work, and congratulations to all the winners! I'm very much looking forward to reading more of the entries for this round.

In other award news, I went to pick up Zgirl from school Friday and could barely see the child for the large and wholly unexpected trophy she was hiding behind. The plaque at its base read: "School Chess Champion: 2007/2008/2009." It's been a good couple of days around here for the geeky girls. :)

Huge congrats! Although, it's not like any of us was surprised... *g*

Aw, shucks. Thank you! It was a nice surprise, especially since I wasn't even sure that they'd allow something haiku-based to sneak into the Ficlet category.

Geek is good! Congrats to both of you!

Thanks, sweetie! I was so happy for her. I remember dropping out of chess club a week or so after I joined because I was the only girl and the boys froze me out. She had one year like that and stuck with it, and now the chess club has more girls than boys. Woot!

:jumps up and down::

Well done Z!!

Thanks, Louise! It was a happy surprise.

I'll pass your congrats on to Z. She was over the moon!

You so deserve that. :D
Jun. 2nd, 2009 01:05 am (UTC)
Aw, thank you! I was so relieved that they didn't kick me out for not quite fitting into the Ficlet category that it never even occurred to me that I might actually win something. *g*
Jun. 2nd, 2009 01:00 am (UTC)
Woweeeeee! Go you, go Z!!!!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 01:09 am (UTC)
Thanks, bb! I was so happy for Z; it's not every day that the gawky bespectacled girls get their due.
Jun. 2nd, 2009 01:51 am (UTC)
Congratulations! Totally deserved, of course.

And congrats to Miss Z, too! That's the coolest thing ever. *really needs to learn to play chess*

Thank you! I was tickled to bits when I opened my email.

*nods* I'm so happy for her. Also? I'm never playing chess with her again. The kid is merciless!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 02:12 am (UTC)
Congratulations! :D
Jun. 2nd, 2009 08:52 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! :D

Didn't we all tell you? Didn't we? Maybe now you'll start believing...don't stop! Heh.

Three-year champeen? Good lord! What a performer! I am so thrilled for Z. Hint: take the whole family to "Up" to celebrate all these successes. It's effulgent. Take a couple of hankies, though. For the beginning.

Heee! Thank you. I finally watched Glee last night, and it was, as predicted, a magical experience.

I was so happy for Z; when she first joined chess club in kindergarten (definitely not my idea, but she was very insistent that she belonged there!) the all-boy group of third and fourth graders wasn't especially welcoming. I'm glad she hung in there, though. Now it's mostly girls!

I can't wait to see "Up." Bless those people at Pixar--they really produce some amazing things.

That's wonderful ! Bravo to the both of you. :) You must have been so happy for Zgirl !!

Thank you, darling! I was thrilled for her, and she was so surprised to have received such a thing. :)
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:07 am (UTC)
Congratulations to both of you!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:01 pm (UTC)
Thank you, dear! We were both pleasantly surprised. :)
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:10 am (UTC)
Aren't you two the stars of the day...
But I never doubted it.
Congratulations on your totally deserved award!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:05 pm (UTC)
Aww, thank you! Your vote of confidence is very much appreciated. Z. and I were both very surprised by our respective awards, and I was so happy for her.

Also? I'm never playing chess against her again; my annihilation would be swift!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 03:13 pm (UTC)
Yay! Congrats. What lovely prizes. :)
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:16 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I was especially happy for Miss Z; she'd been kinda dejected after some disappointments at the school's Spring Olympics last month, and this was an unexpected pick-me-up. Poor bb--when you're ten y/o and your feet have grown from a ladies' size 6 to 8 in one school year, coordination is not really on the menu anymore.
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:01 pm (UTC)
Excellent! I am so proud of you AND Z. And thanks for the fic recs; I read two of them last night and have another one in progress.
Jun. 2nd, 2009 09:24 pm (UTC)
Thank you, ma'am! I was most pleasantly surprised.

Today is Z's last day of elementary school, and I will doubtless spend a large portion of my summer being bested at various games of skill by her terrifying brain. Meep!

Yay fic! Hope I pointed you in the right direction. I have sooo much bookmarked fic to catch up on, but right now I'm all into Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Best Mother's Day present ever! (Well, besides the Randy Giles doll, that is.)
